To Be Grateful: 'Tis the Season

    Alt Tag

I’ve always appreciated that despite the highs and lows of life, the upcoming holidays encourage us to reflect on our many gifts. I continue to be proud and grateful for the opportunity to serve TMAF and how your gifts give hope to so many Texans. TMAF stands out among other large state medical association foundations with its funding of large-scale community-based outreach programs that foster and depend on the volunteer spirit of TMA and TMA Alliance members to implement. You can amplify this work by making a year-end gift to TMAF, perhaps as a Holiday Tribute that shares your gratitude for a friend, colleague or family member or remembers the passing of someone important in your life. We are grateful for all you do by giving hope and improving the health of all Texans.

    Yours in good health,

    Leslie H. Secrest, MD
    President, TMA Foundation

  • New Fund Supports Medical Students

    Alt Tag

Roberto J. Bayardo, MD, Houston, is helping future physicians through his new TMAF fund, which supports scholarships for Texas medical students and grants that enable TMA medical student members to carry out initiatives that improve the health of their community. These grants are made in memory of Agniela M. Bayardo. Thank you Dr. Bayardo! To establish a TMAF fund, contact the executive director at lisa.walsh[at]texmed[dot]org, or (800) 880-1300, ext. 1666.

  • Goal Reached Early

Thanks to nearly 130 donors, $1.25 million was raised for the TMAF General Endowment (GE) through the Endowment for Innovation Campaign (EIC). A $1,000 donation made during the recent TMA Fall Conference completed the campaign several months ahead of schedule. The GE complements funds that are raised year to year through annual campaigns, grant writing and other solicitations. • Let’s Close the 2019 Funding Gap

We’re still working to raise $153,000 to fully support two TMA programs: the 2019 TMA Hard Hats for Little Heads (to protect 31,500 little heads) and Walk with a Doc Texas (plans are to expand to more than 50 sites!).

TMA’s 2019 Be Wise — ImmunizeSM, Minority Scholarship Program, Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching and Deep Roots traveling exhibit were recently approved by the TMAF Board for full funding thanks to donations from individuals and institutions, as well as endowment income. If you’ve not contributed yet this year or are looking for additional tax benefits, please consider making a “greatest need” gift by Dec. 31 to support the 2019 Hard Hats for Little Heads and Walk With a Doc Texas. Thank you!
