El Paso Physician is 2019 Community Health Superhero - 06/19/2019

Joseph Segapeli, MD, and El Paso Pediatric Associates dipped their toes in the Texas Medical Association’s outreach programs in 2017 when they hosted a bicycle helmet giveaway for local children. Two years later, after putting on monthly community walks and an annual flu shot clinic, Dr. Segapeli and the practice were proclaimed TMA Health Heroes.


TMA to Make Be Wise Vaccination Program Even More Effective - 06/17/2019

The Texas Medical Association is always looking for ways to improve the Be Wise – Immunize program, particularly in light of a changing vaccination landscape that includes a rise in vaccine hesitancy and a resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases. So in late 2018, TMA’s Council on Health Promotion established a workgroup to find ways to make it easier for physicians to participate in Be Wise and to reach more communities.

In honor of the Hard Hats for Little Heads' 25th year, the Texas Medical Association and TMA Foundation will pass around a bicycle helmet during TMA’s House of Delegates meeting Saturday, May 18, to raise $10,000 to support the program next year.


Be Wise Protecting Lubbock Seniors Against Pneumonia - 05/09/2019

Senior citizens in Lubbock are getting that option, thanks to a collaboration among the Lubbock County Medical Society Alliance, the City of Lubbock Health Department, and Lubbock Meals on Wheels. The effort is funded by a Local Impact Grant from the Texas Medical Association’s Be Wise – Immunize℠ program.

Be Wise Grant Helps San Angelo Prevent Cancer - 02/05/2019

TMA Honors Health News Reporting - 11/26/2018

Since 1957, TMA has honored outstanding health reporting by Texas print, television, radio, online, and physician journalists with its Anson Jones, MD, Awards. In 2018, Melissa Fletcher Stoeltje of the San Antonio Express-News was named Texas Health Reporter of the Year for a package of stories that touched on the opioid crisis and the effects of the Texas Legislature’s defunding of Planned Parenthood on women’s health.
