The Senate finally passed the bill that would require issuers of Affordable Care Act (ACA) exchange plans (known as qualified health plans) in Texas to display the acronym “QHP” on the plan ID card.

Sine Die! The Texas Senate and House of Representatives officially concluded the 84th legislative session midday today. Lawmakers were busy putting finishing touches on some important bills over the weekend, and several of interest to medicine moved forward.

Today is the 134th day of the session (out of 140), and the last day for the Texas House of Representatives to consider Senate bills and Senate joint resolutions on second reading. Much of today’s action pertains to each chamber vetting bill amendments added by the other chamber. TMA is watching for potential additions of dangerous amendments to otherwise favorable bills. While time dwindles for bill passage and tacking on amendments, both chambers named today John Wayne Day in honor of the Western film actor’s birthday.
