Patient Engagement

  • What Are the Benefits of Patient Engagement?

Actively engaging patients does more than boost loyalty and word-of-mouth referrals; it could actually improve patients’ health outcomes. Patient engagement is a significant portion of the Promoting Interoperability (PI) requirements in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) set forth in the Medicare Access and Chip Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

Emerging technologies such as patient portals, personal health records (PHRs), texting and instant messaging, mobile applications, and online forms allow patients to communicate securely with physicians and their staff in efficient and productive ways.

Patients increasingly see themselves as consumers of health care and look to their physician for better, more efficient, and more effective service. Recognizing the value of excellent patient service is a critical component of medical practices' success. Use the following tools and resources to better engage your patients in their healthcare.

    Medical Records Check Up Day

Did you know the Texas Legislature has designated May 1 as Medical Records Checkup Day? May 1 can serve as your annual reminder to tell your patients to be prepared so they can grab a summary of their record on the go in an emergency. Let them know they can access the patient portal through your practice’s website and download their medical summary so they have it accessible.
