Medicare has delayed the deadline for physicians to enroll in
the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) until
Jan. 3, 2011. The deadline had been April 5 of this year.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (CMS) says PECOS will help reduce fraud and abuse and cut
down on paperwork. Organized medicine sought more time for
physicians to enroll.
