Medicare Payments to Stop Temporarily

Keywords: Medicare  Reimbursement

Texas Medicare physicians will not receive any payments from March 11 to March 16 while TrailBlazer Health Enterprises switches its accounting system from the Multi-Carrier System to the new Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System. Payments will resume March 17.

However, TrailBlazer says claims already approved for payment will be paid three days in advance of the normal claims payment floor (14 days for electronic claims and 29 days for paper claims) on March 10.  on March 10. Normally, that claims can't be paid until the payment floor has passed but the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is making an exception because of HIGLAS and the payment floors will be reduced by three days.

"This may give the appearance that your cash revenues have increased, when in fact payments for some of your claims have simply been made earlier than normal," it warned. "Providers are encouraged to monitor their payments and make adjustments as necessary to prevent cash flow problems during the transition period."
