TMAF Funds Needed Health Initiatives for 2010

The TMAF Board of Trustees approved more than $235,000 in funding these 2010 TMA health improvement and education initiatives:

  • Hard Hats for Little Heads: Since 1994, this two-time award-winning program provided bicycle helmets and safety information to more than 75,000 Texas children.
  • Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching: Created in 1990, this program recognizes teachers for fostering an interest in science and medicine in elementary, middle, and high school students.
  • Be Wise - Immunize: Be Wise has provided more than 157,000 immunizations since 2004, and also provides physician and patient educational tools.
  • Minority Scholarship Program: Since 1998, this program has awarded nearly 50 $5,000 scholarships to outstanding first-year minority medical students.
  • Physician Oncology Education Program: Since 1997, the foundation has helped to support special projects of this unique program that provides physicians and patients the knowledge and the skills necessary to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality.
