Health Care Provider Reporting for Novel Influenza A (H1N1)

Due to the introduction of the novel influenza A (H1N1) in April 2009, the Texas Department of State Health Services is requesting that health care professionals report the following information to their local health department staff:

Reportable Condition

When to Report

Hospitalized patient with laboratory-confirmed* novel influenza A (H1N1)

Weekly

Intensive Care Unit patient with laboratory-confirmed novel influenza A (H1N1)

Within 1 working day

Death with laboratory-confirmed* novel influenza A (H1N1)

Immediately

 

 

 

 

 

*Laboratory confirmation refers to testing by RT-PCR or culture.

Notes:

  • Outpatient cases are not reportable, even if laboratory-confirmed novel influenza A (H1N1)
  • Hospitalized patients with positive flu, rapid testing only, are not reportable. Report the hospitalized patients confirmed by RT-PCR.
  • Physicians can contact their local or regional health department for additional guidance on reporting.
