How to Triage Your Flu Patients

The TMA Flu Fighters have developed several recommendations to help physicians respond to outbreaks of the H1N1 flu and seasonal flu. Here are several recommendations to help triage your patients with flu-like symptoms:

• Direct your patients to 211, the state’s health information helpline.
• Get clinical questions answered by dialing 211, selecting option No. 6 and then No. 2.
• Record an on-hold message at your office to give patients information on what to do if they have flu-like symptoms. You can adapt the CDC’s three-and-a-half minute on-hold messagedeveloped for pediatricians and other clinicians.
