Today, Aug. 3, is the last day to reserve your hotel room for the 2009 TMA Fall Conference Sept. 4-5 at the Hyatt Hotel in Austin and take advantage of TMA's special rate of $159. You can call the Hyatt at (800) 233-1234 to reserve your room and mention TMA to receive the special rate, or make your reservations online.
At his speech to the annual American Medical Association meeting in Chicago last month, President Barack Obama emphasized the importance of physician participation in the debate over health system reform. The nation's sharp focus on health care issues gives physicians an opportunity to address many of the problems they face daily in caring for their patients.
The TMA Fall Conference is one of those opportunities. The conference will include discussion on topics ranging from medical liability and physician antitrust reform, to Medicare payment and health insurance reform, and from prevention and wellness to quality improvement.
Physicians will hear the latest on the debate from TMA's Health System Reform Task Force, as well as from Washington politicos.
Because the conference falls on the Labor Day weekend this year, TMA has cut Saturday programming short so that you and your family can enjoy the holiday weekend in Austin or elsewhere. Due to a last-minute change to the date of the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, TMA had to move the date of the conference from October to Sept. 4-5.
TMA boards, councils, committees, and sections will meet Friday and Saturday at the TMA building and at the Hyatt.
Saturday's session begins with a breakfast buffet at 7:30 am. The general session on health system reform begins at 8 am. Invited speakers are:
- Nancy Dickey, MD, chair, TMA Task Force on Health System Reform;
- AMA President Jim Rohack, MD;
- U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), and
- U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, MD (R-Texas).
Saturday's board, council, and committee meetings begin at 10:30 am.
