2008
The Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 (TRHCA), the statute authorizing the physician quality reporting system that CMS has named the "Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI)", requires that CMS propose in the Federal Register by August 15, 2007, and finalize by November 15, 2007, quality measures CMS has identified as appropriate for eligible professionals to use to report PQRI data in 2008.
The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) for the 2008 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) included 148 proposed measures. The final rule identifies the 119 of these measures that CMS has selected, pursuant to statutory requirements, for eligible professionals to report data under the 2008 PQRI measures.
The MPFS final rule also summarizes and responds to comments on PQRI content of the proposed rule and describes CMS' plans to test in 2008 quality-measures data submission mechanisms based on clinical data registries and electronic health records.
For the 119 quality measures included in the 2008 PQRI program , the tools are now available online at www.ama-assn.org/go/toolsMedicarePQRI .
