The Texas Department of State Health Services has changed vaccination requirements for children. Students entering kindergarten and seventh grade may need more shots before the school year begins. Encourage parents to vaccinate their children now during the summer months and avoid the back-to-school rush. Help your patients avoid long waits for appointments and an overload of calls in August.
Here are a few ways to get ahead of the game:
- Conduct after-hours or Saturday shot clinics,
- Provide shot-only appointments, or
- Implement a stepped-up effort to check every child's vaccine record during appointments.
Texas Medical Association's Be Wise — ImmunizeSM program has tools to boost vaccination practices in your office. To order patient education materials, contact TMA's outreach coordinator by e-mail at TMA Outreach Coordinator or call her at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1470, or (512) 370-1470.
Be Wise — Immunize is a service mark of the Texas Medical Association.
