State health officials are seeking comments on proposed changes to rules for reporting cases of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. They say the changes will improve the timeliness and completeness of reporting and streamline the public health follow-up process.
The changes involve:
- An HIV/AIDS combined state-level case report form,
- HIV drug-resistance testing (FASTA) reporting by laboratories,
- Reporting all CD4+ T-lymphocyte counts and HIV viral loads,
- Reporting all polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results for children aged 3 years and younger,
- Reporting negative confirmatory test results for syphilis, and
- Reporting syphilis within one working day.
Physicians can e-mail comments to Ed Weckerly at the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) until June 15 or testify at a DSHS Council meeting June 25 in Austin. The meeting will be at 9 am in Room M-739 of the Moreton Building of the main DSHS office at 1100 W. 49th St.
