DSHS Improving Death Registration

Keywords: Electronic_Transactions

State health department officials say physician complaints are prompting them to change the Texas Electronic Death Registration system. With the changes planned for the end of April:

  • Physicians will no longer have to reenter demographic information.
  • Funeral directors will be able to enter the time of death.
  • Certain fields previously requiring an entry of "not applicable" will be disabled.
  • Records incorrectly referred by funeral homes to a physician will be removed from the physician's work queue. The physician will receive an e-mail notification.

The Department of State Health Services says it plans additional improvements this summer. The agency also will establish a review group of physicians to provide feedback on further changes.
