Keywords: Immunization  Public_Health

New state health department requirements for school immunizations take effect Aug. 1. The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) said it changed them so they more closely adhere to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

Frequently asked questions  about the new requirements and a phase-in schedule are posted on the TMA Web site.

For more information, call the DSHS Immunization Branch customer service hotline at (800) 252-9152.

TMA is working to improve immunization rates through the Be Wise — ImmunizeSM program, one of the most ambitious public health programs in the Texas Medical Association’s history. It's a joint initiative of TMA and the TMA Alliance, funded through a grant from the TMA Foundation. Using education, communication, and action, Be Wise — Immunize promotes vaccinations to the public as important, safe, and effective.
