United Extends Appeal Deadline to Feb. 11

Thanks to complaints from the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, and physicians nationwide, UnitedHealthcare has extended its deadline for you to appeal your rating in UnitedHealthcare's Premium Designation Program (PDP) if you think it's wrong. United will not publish or use the rating until your request for reconsideration is resolved, if you file it by Feb. 11.

Now, appeals postmarked, faxed, or e-mailed by Feb. 11 are guaranteed to be adjudicated for the scheduled March release of new ratings for physicians in PDP. Although you may appeal your designation to United at any time, successful appeals received after Feb. 11 may not be reflected in the initial release of new ratings.

If you have a contract with United and did not receive or did not read a PDP letter that United mailed to PDP-participating physicians on Dec. 23, call (866) 270-5588 or e-mail unitedpremium[at]uhc[dot]com to obtain a faxed or e-mailed copy of the letter.

To access your data and file for reconsideration, log on to http://www.uhc.com/ . You'll need the ID and password listed in the letter from United. The Web site also includes comprehensive information about PDP, the process for requesting reconsideration, the detailed methodology used for the assessment, and other materials to help you learn more about the program.

To better represent you, TMA is tracking physicians who appeal their PDP rating. If you are considering filing an appeal, please send a quick e-mail to Genevieve Davis in our Payment Advocacy Department. Or, you may call the TMA Knowledge Center at (800) 880-7955. We will follow up with you shortly to find out if you did protest your rating.

Please note that TMA cannot represent individual physicians or practices in this appeal. You must collect the information and file the appeal on your own.

For additional information on the PDP appeal, see the TMA Web site .
