Health care reform didn't get a lot of attention in President Barack Obama's inaugural address, but he did mention it as one way to improve the nation's fiscal status.
"We will restore science to its rightful place and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its costs,” he said. "The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works – whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end."
Congress is considering an $825 billion stimulus package, the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act." The legislation will contain $275 billion in tax relief and $550 billion in direct spending in an effort to stimulate economic activity. Several provisions will affect health care.
