A new Be Wise — ImmunizeSM Physician Toolkit for Adolescents is available from TMA. The comprehensive toolkit, created in cooperation with the Texas Department of State Health Services, contains a manual for physicians and educational materials for patients.

The physician manual includes information about best practices for improving adolescent vaccination rates, talking to parents and adolescents about vaccinations, ImmTrac (the Texas Immunization Registry), and more. The kit also includes posters to hang in waiting and exam rooms and other educational materials that target adolescent patients, such as a fact-and-fiction handout on adolescent vaccines and immunization schedule cards.

The new toolkit is a companion to the Physician Toolkit for Children produced in 2007 by TMA. That toolkit, which has recently been updated, also is available. To order your copy of the adolescent or childhood toolkits, e-mail Tammy Wishard, TMA's outreach coordinator, or call her at (800) 880-1300, ext. 1470, or (512) 370-1470.

TMA physicians launched the Be Wise — Immunize program in 2004 to boost Texas' immunization rates. To date, the program has administered more than 120,000 shots to Texas children.

Be Wise — Immunize is a registered service mark of the Texas Medical Association.
