The Physician Oncology Education Program is primarily funded by the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas. 

Portions of this ovarian cancer project were funded by the Texas Department of State Health Services through a Centers of Disease Control and Prevention grant.


This module has been created for primary care physicians for the purpose of enhancing the knowledge of ovarian cancer with a particular emphasis on prevention strategies, early diagnosis, treatment options, and management.  The course discusses the incidence and mortality of ovarian cancer in the United States.  An overview of available screening mechanisms are described.  Factors that contribute to a patient’s higher risk for ovarian cancer are also detailed. 

Instructions for Obtaining 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for This Activity

1) View each of the six course modules in their entirety.

Objectives

At the completion of the course, physicians should be able to:

  • Identify risk factors for ovarian cancer.
  • Discuss signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, along with new guidelines.
  • Discuss screening and early detection of ovarian cancer.
  • Define treatment options:  including surgery and chemotherapy.
  • Explore recent data about hereditary ovarian cancer.
  • Discuss current research and future outcomes in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Continuing Medical Education

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category I Credits™.  Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

TMA has designated the Ovarian Cancer module for 1 hour of medical ethics and/or professional responsibility education.

TMA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

This presentation is designed for primary care physicians and physician assistants.  It is intended to provide professional education about the importance of talking about ovarian cancer and its symptoms to patients.

Cost of Program

There is no cost to review this course.  To receive continuing medical education credit for completion of this course, the fee is $25 to process your application.  Payment should be made at the end of the course. 

Method of Physician Participation

This module consists of state-of-the-science information presented by audio and by slide presentation.  The participant will be required to study the slide and audio materials, pass a post test, and complete the evaluation at the end of the course.
