The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has
postponed the 2009
Medicare Part B Competitive Acquisition
Program
(CAP) for physicians until further notice. CMS says contractual
issues with the successful bidders caused the delay.
Because of the postponement, CAP drugs will not be available
from an approved vendor after Dec. 31, and physicians need not
elect before then whether they will participate in the 2009
program. CMS plans to seek feedback on the program and could change
it before soliciting new bids from vendors. Physicians who
voluntarily enroll in CAP must acquire all injectable and infused
Medicare Part B drugs on the CAP drug list from the approved CAP
vendor.
