Epidemiological Summary of HIV/AIDS in Tarrant County, 2000 Through 2005

This report provides detailed information regarding demographic and risk characteristics of persons infected with HIV/AIDS in Tarrant County, Texas; trends in the epidemic over time; and cases diagnosed and reported between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2005. A higher incidence rate for HIV and AIDS was observed among men and Blacks. The highest incidence rate for HIV was observed among persons aged from 25 through 44 years, while the highest AIDS incidence rate was observed among those who were aged 35 through 44 years. The predominant mode of exposure for HIV and AIDS cases was men having sex with men. Finally, the overall number of persons with HIV in Tarrant County not receiving medical care increased.
