The Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP) have extended the National Provider Identifier compliance contingency period from Feb. 29 until May 23.
TMA and Medicaid health plans requested the extension to avoid transferring a large number of patients to new physicians. Under current rules, patients of physicians who had not attested their NPI to TMHP would be transferred to physicians who had. The new Texas deadline is in keeping with the national deadline.
