Have a Heart for Physicians

Open your hearts for “Have a Heart for Physicians,” a fund-raising effort by TMA’s Physician Health and Rehabilitation (PHR) Assistance Fund held during May 2008.

The PHR Assistance Fund helps physicians in need. It provides financial assistance to physicians who cannot afford treatment for depression, chemical dependence, or other problems, or whose families need help with short-term living expenses while a physician receives treatment.

Two PHR committee members and one TMA Alliance representative review a physician's loan application and recommends approval or rejection to the TMA Board of Trustees. If approved, the physician signs a loan agreement in which he or she agrees to make good faith payments of $20 per month beginning six months after a loan is granted, regardless of employment status. He or she makes 36 equal customary payments to pay the outstanding principal and interest left after deduction of good faith payments. Customary payments are due not later than two years from the date of the first loan or six months after the physician regains employment, whichever occurs first.

The PHR Assistance Fund relies on donations to help continue this important work. Help restore the life of a colleague today. Please help physicians who are in recovery and need financial assistance. Send your heartfelt donations to the PHR Assistance Fund today.
