Tucker Bonner, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of King's Daughters Hospital in Temple, is one of 16 physicians, hospital officials, health care executives, and attorneys on a Joint Commission task force that will examine concerns over implementing the commission's new medical staff standard that take effect in July 2009.
The task force will seek to better understand four issues related to hospital compliance with the new standard:
1. The flexibility allowed the medical staff and governing body on placement of documents in or outside of the medical staff by-laws;
2. The expectation that the decisions of the medical executive committee reflect the wishes of the medical staff;
3. The expectation that organizations with productive working relationships among leadership will find the voting requirements of the organized medical staff reasonable to implement; and
4. The method to limit items requiring joint approval.
