TMA Practice Management Seminars
Medicare Update 2010 New
Medicare will launch its Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program in March 2010, and any physician who bills Medicare is fair game for an audit. RACs will mine Part B claims data to identify underpayments and overpayments, looking for physicians whose Medicare billings are higher or lower than their peers'. In preparation for the RAC program, a significant portion of this year's Medicare series will address common billing and coding errors, frequently-asked questions regarding Medicare payment policies, and how to appeal claim denials.

Recorded Web Seminar: Medical Records - Consent for Treatment of Minors
State and federal laws guarantee patients access to their own medical records except in very limited situations. But how do these laws apply to minors and their parents? Moreover, what rights to minors have in making decisions about their own care? This presentation will outline sensitive issues that arise when dealing with minors, adult children, and spouses.
Recorded Web Seminar: Professional Courtesy, Waiving Copays, and Charity Care Requirements
A 1996 W.B. Saunders Company poll estimated that 97 percent of physicians offer some type of professional courtesy in their practices. Due to an upsurge in government's efforts to ensure accurate claim billing, and federal laws addressing physician referral and patient relationships, the legality of this tradition has been called into question. This seminar will take a look at how professional courtesy is defined, the guidelines for its provision, and considerations that must be made to steer clear of potential fraud liability.
Recorded Web Seminar: Red Flag Rules
The Federal Trade Commission says physicians who regularly bill their patients for services (includes billing for copayments and coinsurance) are creditors and must develop and implement written identity theft prevention programs for their practices by August 1, 2009. The programs must identify and respond to patterns, practices, or specific activities — known as "red flags" — that could indicate identity theft. Learn how to comply with new identity theft prevention regulations for physician offices.
