Doctors' Day is a celebration begun by the
Southern Medical Association Alliance
adopted in 1935 to honor members of the medical profession.
It is now observed nationwide to commemorate a significant day in
medical history: It was on March 30, 1842, that Dr. Crawford W.
Long, a Georgia physician, first used ether as an anesthetic agent
in a surgical operation, thereby providing mankind with pain-free
surgery.
Alliances across the state of Texas honor their physicians in
many ways. The TMA Alliance offers tray cards to distribute at
hospitals and physicians' offices to let patients know that there
is a special day set aside to honor and thank physicians. If you
would like to order tent cards, you can access the order form
