Physicians Move Texans Toward Healthy Choices

"I’ve been walking in Lubbock with Dr. Mittal for the past two years. These walks help me get outside more with my community, and they have been a great addition to my exercise routine. I have type 2 diabetes, and along with Dr. Mittal’s care, walking helps me maintain my insulin levels as well as manage my hypertension. The Walk With a Doc Texas program is great!"

- Jonathan Salazar

In just two years, Walk With a Doc (WWAD) Texas has grown from three pilot locations to 30 events per month in 19 locations. Mr. Salazar is one of the more than 5,000 Texans who is benefiting from the exercise and healthy information at the core of this program. This highly regarded national project, founded by Ohio cardiologist David Sabgir, MD, partners physicians with their patients in healthy physical activity to reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle, especially obesity.

TMA physician members host regularly scheduled walks for patients and their community. Participants enjoy healthy food and lifestyle education through brief presentations before each walk, conversations with the physician and other health care team members while walking, and take-home information. During the walks, patients discuss general health and lifestyle issues with a person they trust — their physician. WWAD is funded by the TMA Foundation with generous support from the TMA Insurance Trust.

TMA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, thus your charitable gift is tax-deductible to the full extent permitted by law. Thank you!
