Dallas Physician Elected Alternate Delegate to the AMA

Sue Bornstein, MD, a Dallas internist, was elected to represent Texas physicians as an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. Dr. Bornstein was elected at TexMed, Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) annual conference in Fort Worth.

“I will bring the spirit of collaboration and respect to the AMA delegation,” said Dr. Bornstein. “The success of American health care depends on strong relationships ― with our patients and with each other.”

Dr. Bornstein has served on numerous TMA councils and committees. She chairs the Committee on Primary Care and the Medical Home and serves on the Interspecialty Society Committee and the Ad Hoc Committee on Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program. Dr. Bornstein also chaired the Primary Care Coalition and served on both the Physician Services Organization Selection Committee and the Committee on Physician Distribution.

Locally, Dr. Bornstein served as secretary/treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Dallas County Medical Society. During her 10 years as a private practice physician at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), Dr. Bornstein became the first woman in the history of BUMC to be elected president-elect of the Baylor medical staff, serving in 2005.

Dr. Bornstein is executive director of the Texas Medical Home Initiative, a nonprofit physician-led organization dedicated to implementing the patient-centered medical home model of care in Texas. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 47,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 112 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
