TMAF President's Report to the House of Delegates

Susan Todd, TMAF president from May 2007-May 2009, summarizes foundation accomplishments and goals to TMA's policy making body at TexMed, TMA's annual conference, held this May in Austin.

Meet the 2009-2011 TMA Foundation Officers

TMA Foundation Supports UTMB Medical Students. The foundation's campaign for TMA's UTMB Medical Student Recovery Program was a huge success, raising $70,490 to provide financial assistance to the hundreds of medical students who reported that rebuilding and replacing lost and damaged lab supplies and textbooks had exhausted their savings and in some cases their student loans as well.

Susan Todd, 2007-2009 president of TMAF,  presented the grant to TMA at the April 7 First Tuesday at the Capitol event in Austin. The presentation was made before more than 100 medical students, physicians and alliance members who came to be briefed by TMA lobbyists before heading off to the Capitol. A photo of the presentation plus excerpts from thank you letters  that nearly 50 medical students sent to TMA in appreciation of the aid they received, is being sent to all campaign donors in July.

Matching Grant Received! Thanks to these generous donors, TMAF reached the goal of $10,000 needed to receive the matching grant from the John P. McGovern Foundation, Houston, a longtime supporter of the foundation's work. This generous challenge grant, combined with Star/Superstar gifts from TMA Foundation donors and proceeds from the gala, will assure that Texans continue to receive vital health prevention and awareness programs delivered by skilled TMA physicians, their families, and Texas medical students.

TMA Foundation Funded Program Wins Two Public Relations Awards! TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads is a two-time award winner: TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads program won the Fan Favorite/Best Campaign Award from the Austin Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and the Silver Spur Award in the Texas Public Relations Association's 2009 Silver Spur/Best of Texas Competition. The awards are given for outstanding achievement in nonprofit public relations. Since TMA started the program in 1994, physicians and their families have provided 55,000 Texas children with helmets to prevent head and brain injury while riding a bike.
