Help Us Advance the Party of Medicine

As our 2011 membership campaign winds up this month, we are reaching out to our physician colleagues once again in hopes you'll consider investing in the Texas Medical Association Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) this year. Please join or renew your TEXPAC membership today.

There are two easy ways to join or renew your TEXPAC membership: online at www.texpac.org or by calling (800) 880-1300, ext. 1361, or (512) 370-1361 between 8:15 am and 5:15 pm.

Earlier this summer, we shared with you our appointments as your representatives on the TEXPAC Board for the upcoming 2012 election cycle. When we gathered at TexMed last May, we noticed and felt a great deal of energy in the room as well as numerous ideas to lay a strong foundation for a very successful 2012 Election Cycle. Our goal is to continue our work with fellow board members and local colleagues to enhance TMA's political power, influence, and relevance. The 2012 elections will be an immense challenge, of course. But next year also brings us tremendous opportunities to increase the number of legislative champions helping to propel our aggressive agenda for you, your practice, and your patients.

Our objectives are to:

  • Recruit 25 percent of every county medical society to be TEXPAC members;
  • Retain 100 percent of last year's TEXPAC members; and
  • Facilitate grassroots-driven, peer-to-peer membership recruitment efforts.

To accomplish these objectives, we must develop strong partnerships with the county medical societies and dramatically increase TEXPAC's visibility and communication efforts. As TEXPAC board members, we are here to offer assistance and advice, as well as to listen to YOUR viewpoints on how TEXPAC can be the most effective medical PAC in Texas and the country.

You can find our contact information as well as determine your current TEXPAC membership status on our website at Join TEXPAC.

Finally, we pledge we will use your contribution wisely, effectively, and appropriately to help elect candidates who support TMA's priority issues and who will help our colleagues like U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, MD; State Sen. Bob Deuell, MD; and State Reps. Susan King; Charles Schwertner, MD; Mark Shelton, MD; and John Zerwas, MD.

Check out the video outlining our past successes and upcoming challenges that we showed to the TMA House of Delegates.

Texas Medical Association Political Action Committee (TEXPAC) is a bi-partisan political action committee of TMA and affiliated with the American Medical Association Political Action Committee (AMPAC) for congressional contribution purposes only. Its goal is to support and elect pro-medicine candidates on both the federal and state level. Voluntary contributions by individuals to TEXPAC should be written on personal checks. Any corporate funds or funds attributed to individuals or professional association (PAs) that would exceed legal contribution limits will be placed in the TEXPAC administrative account to support political education activities unless a refund is requested. Federal Election Law prohibits TEXPAC from soliciting donations from persons who are not either TMA members or TMA Executive/Administrative personnel and their families. All donations received other than from these persons will be returned.

Contributions are not limited to the suggested amounts. TEXPAC will not favor or disadvantage anyone based on the amounts or failure to make contributions. Contributions are subject to the prohibitions and limitations of the Federal Election Campaign Act.

Contributions or gifts to TEXPAC or any CMS PAC are not deductible as charitable contributions or business expenses for Federal income tax purposes.

Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. To satisfy this regulation, please include your occupation and employer information in the space provided. Contributions from a practice business account must disclose the name of the practice and the allocation of contributions for each contributing owner. Should you have any questions, please call TEXPAC at (512) 370-1361.
