TMA encourages you to GRAB the GOLD! Apply now for the first-ever TMA Award for Excellence in Academic Medicine at the Gold Level. This is an exciting opportunity for our 47,000 members to give special recognition to academic physicians who are consummate teachers, role models, and medical professionals. The value of our academic leaders to the family of medicine is priceless.
The first phase of the multi-level TMA Award Program for Excellence in Academic Medicine, for the Bronze and Silver Levels, was launched in September 2012. The overall program has four recognition levels, ranging from Bronze, up to Platinum and eligibility requirements increase for each level. The 2012 application cycle for the Bronze and Silver Levels closed on December 31, 2012. A new cycle for 2013 will open this summer, we encourage you to bookmark this page to check back often for future announcements.
TMA is eager to recognize Texas physician leaders who have simultaneously dedicated their lives to the care of their patients and to the preparation of the physician workforce of tomorrow. We encourage you to consider your eligibility for these awards and to share this information with your colleagues. This award program not only will gives TMA the opportunity to recognize physician leaders for excellence in academic medicine but the award will make a fine addition to your professional portfolio and help you advance in your career.
The Gold Recognition Award is designed for the most accomplished physicians in both academic AND organized medicine. To be eligible, you must have at least 10 years of service in an academic faculty position and have served in leadership positions within organized medicine. But, there’s yet another reason to Go for the Gold! The sole 2013 TMA Platinum Award recipient will be selected by a physician selection committee from among the Gold Level recipients. The Platinum Award Level is TMA’s highest honor for academic physicians and involves a $5,000 cash award! The cash award was provided through the generosity of the TMA Foundation. To be considered for the Platinum Award, you must submit an application for the Gold Level; there is not a separate application process for the Platinum Level.
Not sure which level of award is a good fit for you? The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Levels are all self-nominating and noncompetitive. The Platinum Award winner is selected by a physician committee from among the Gold Level recipients. You must have received Gold Level recognition to qualify for the Platinum Award. Recipients of the Gold Level will be invited to attend the TMA Council on Medical Education meeting at the 2013 TexMed in San Antonio to be recognized and receive their certificate. All award winners will be recognized in print in TMA’s award-winning newsmagazine, Texas Medicine; monthly e-newsletter, It’s Academic; and in the Handbook for Delegates for the TMA House of Delegates annual meeting. Gold Level recipients will be eligible for consideration of the Platinum Award for up to three years, after which they may reapply for Platinum Level consideration.

PLEASE NOTE: To qualify for the award program, applicants must have active, paid membership in TMA. If you have not had active, paid TMA membership for the prescribed amount of time specified in the criteria for each level, you will not be eligible and should not apply.
