Hard Hats for Little Heads

Keywords: Public_Health

Hard Hats for Little Heads was created by TMA in 1994 to help reduce head injury among Texas children. Head injury, the most common cause of serious disability or death in bicycle crashes, can be reduced by 85 percent with proper use of a helmet. TMA's Hard Hats for Little Heads encourages the use of helmets in all wheeled sports: bicycling, skateboarding, inline skating, and when riding a scooter.

Through the program, TMA provides up to 50 free helmets with a matching purchase for local giveaways. These giveaways are a perfect way to protect children in your community from serious brain injury.

Members of the TMA family can participate by sponsoring a helmet giveaway in their community. To find out how, contact Tammy Wishard, outreach coordinator, at hardhats@texmed.org or (512) 370-1470.

Hard Hats for Little Heads is funded by a grant from the TMA Foundation, through a gift from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, and contributions from physicians and their families.
