Topic Federal Agency: Physician Payments Sunshine Act Data Collection Begins
Background In February 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule that implements the Physician Payments Sunshine Act, a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). CMS requires manufacturers and group purchase organizations (GPOs) to start collecting data that must be reported to CMS by March 31, 2014.

Consequences Physicians will have an opportunity in 2014 to review the reported data before they are published on the CMS website.
