Background Every two years the Texas legislature meets for 140 days to consider new proposed law and modifications to existing law. 150 Representatives and 31 Senators from around the state vote on matters that can directly affect your practice. The Lieutenant Governor presides over the Senate and recognizes Senators for votes upon their bills. The House of Representatives elects the Speaker of the House to preside over their proceedings. The House Calendars Committee sets the House Agenda
